You can also practice your skills while exploring your new surroundings.
You can sign up to an intensive language course by completing our online application form. Please select your chosen Destination and then ‘Learn (language name)’ on Section 2 of the application form; for example, select ‘Learn Amharic’ for the Intensive course in Ethiopia. Alternatively, you can call us on 01903 708300 or email info@projects-abroad.co.uk
After completing an intensive language course you could then take part in another voluntary placement and put your language skills to good use. You could take part in Care in Togo, Teaching in Mexico or even the Nomad Project in Morocco.
Some volunteers decide to do an intensive course in order to improve their language skills enough to then join a project where some knowledge of the language is needed, for example once you’ve brushed up on your French or Spanish you could then join a Journalism project in Senegal or a Medicine project in Mexico.
All Language Course volunteers will receive a certificate after completing their placement stating the amount of hours and the language studied.
Add-on 14, 30 or 60 hour language courses:
- Run alongside another volunteer project like Teaching, Care or Journalism.
- Tailored to suit your ability and requirements.
- One-to-one or small-group lessons.
- Flexible lesson times according to the structure of your volunteer project.
- Prices from £135 for 14 hours.

These language courses are ideal if you want to start learning a foreign language or to brush up on your existing skills. Your exact timetable will be agreed on arrival, so the hours fit in with your volunteer placement. We recommend that to fit in a 60-hour add-on course that you are on a placement for at least 3 months.
Please be aware that add-on language courses are not available alongside all projects, in particular many Conservation projects. Please check with us if you are unsure.
If you want to sign up for a 14, 30 or 60 hour add-on language course, simply include it on your application form. Please make a note on the form where it asks if you have any “placement preferences”. Alternatively, you can call us on 01903 708300 or email info@projects-abroad.co.uk.
