Brazil: Volunteer Football Coaching Work Experience Placements

Brazil is a country passionate about sport and more specifically football, winning the World Cup a record five times and known by locals simply as ‘the football country’.
Many Brazilian children live for football and it is by far the favourite pastime of youngsters found playing in the streets.
Coach Football to Children with Projects Abroad
Projects Abroad works with two football placements. The first involves teaching sport, in particular football, at schools during PE lessons to a variety of classes and age groups. It is beneficial for volunteers to speak a basic level of Portuguese when working at this placement.
Volunteers working at our football projects in Brazil work at local schools or football academies, or both. Both projects are based in Niteroi, just across the bay from Rio de Janeiro.
Our second sports placement involves football training on a beach several afternoons/evenings a week. Volunteers will coach and play with children from disadvantaged backgrounds offering an opportunity to develop pride and team skills, and most importantly giving them a chance to have some fun!
Our football placements in Brazil provide a chance for young players to develop their basic skills and techniques with the hope that some may achieve the phenomenal success of Brazilian stars like Pele, Ronaldinho or Kaka!
We recommend that to join a sports placement in Brazil you combine it with either a Care or Teaching project, as the sports activities are organised in the afternoons or early evenings. Please let us know which option you prefer when you apply.
Your Role Volunteering Abroad on a Sports Project in Brazil
When you get to Brazil, you will be introduced to the students and your supervisor. Don’t worry if you have little or no teaching or coaching experience; the staff here are dedicated to their programmes and very open to volunteers, so will help you in anyway they can.
As a foreigner, your very presence will help to make each sports lesson or training session fun – which is vital to maintaining the interest and enthusiasm of the children. Our sports placements in Brazil do not focus on competition football. The focus is on creating a fun sporting experience.
