Projects Abroad offers a range of placements in North America, to volunteers of all abilities and ages, from anywhere in the world. Whether you are on a gap-year or retired; volunteering as an elective student or on an internship; taking a career break or on holiday from work, school, college or university, we have a voluntary project to suit you. In North America we currently work in Costa Rica, Jamaica and Mexico.

Projects Abroad has been organising volunteer placements since 1992 and we are now the world’s leading overseas volunteering organisation. We have thousands of available placements, which means that we can offer an incredible degree of flexibility – not only do you choose the project and destination that you want, the duration of the project and your own start date, but we will also work with you to find a placement which best suits your abilities and interests. We also have large staff teams in all of our destinations – to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Volunteer placements in North America: Costa Rica, Jamaica and Mexico

We offer a range of volunteering opportunities in each of our destinations. In all of these North American locations we offer Care and Teaching projects. In addition to this, we run Conservation & Environment projects – in Mexico this means volunteering on our Sea Turtle & Coastal Ecology project; in Costa Rica you would volunteer on our Tropical Dry Forest project.

We offer a variety of Community projects in Jamaica and Mexico, Sports placements in Jamaica and Costa Rica and Spanish Language placements in Costa Rica and Mexico! Our offices are located in Liberia in Costa Rica, Mandeville in Jamaica and Guadalajara in Mexico. Projects are located either in these locations or in the surrounding areas.

Travel & Tourism in North America

There is plenty of scope for visiting other parts of your destination country whilst you are on your project; weekend trips are regularly organised by Projects Abroad staff and volunteers, to places like Manuel Antonio National Park in Costa Rica, Oaxaca in Mexico and Margaritaville in Jamaica.

Many volunteers also like to spend a period of time travelling further afield, either at the beginning or the end of their trip, and North America offers many diverse opportunities for this; from Costa Rica it is a short hop over to Panama and the beautiful Bocas del Toro archipelago, Mexico is bordered by the USA, Guatemala and Belize, and Jamaica is a perfect location from which to explore the rest of the Caribbean!
