Community volunteering for teenagers in Samoa will be one of the most visually pleasing experiences

Volunteer with Children in Samoa for Teenagers

Work in a group with other teenagers to support the education of children in stunning Samoa

Team up with a group of volunteers your age and take part in community volunteer work in Samoa for teenagers. On this project, you’ll have the chance to really immerse yourself in traditional village life on a tropical island. You’ll also take part in work that benefits the local community.

In Samoa, you’ll team up to help run literacy programmes for children during their school holidays. These programmes take place in local libraries. The libraries are in a state of disrepair, so your group will do some basic renovation work. It’s great way for you to add experience to your CV and develop your teamwork and leadership skills.

You’ll live and work with your group in two different villages. When you’re not working, we’ve organised plenty to keep you busy. Our friendly local staff will be there to supervise and support you at all times, and make sure you enjoy exploring Samoa with new friends!

When you apply you only pay €295, which comes off the total price.

Is community volunteering for teenagers in Samoa right for me?

This project is the perfect fit if you enjoy working with children and want to team up with other teenagers to support a local community. At the same time, you’ll be able to explore Samoa together. And best of all, you’ll become part of our ongoing efforts to improve early childhood education.

Travelling alone can be a daunting prospect. But don’t worry, you don’t have to organise anything in Samoa, as you’ll follow an itinerary. From the moment you arrive at the airport, we’ll plan everything. You and your group will have a full schedule of volunteer work, cultural and social activities, and a weekend trip.

You don’t need prior experience to join this project, as you’ll be taught everything you need to know when you arrive. Furthermore, this placement is fully supervised, so there will be someone to guide you at all times.

Not only will you be helping, you’ll also gain practical work experience, which is a great addition to your CV. It also gives you the chance to develop personal skills such as teamwork, leadership, and planning.

Our Care & Community High School Specials runs over fixed dates in the summer. You can choose the dates that best fit your schedule.

What will I do on this community volunteering project for teenagers in Samoa?

Your main role will be to work with your group to support children at a care centre or school. You’ll also get involved with light renovation work. You’ll get involved with activities such as:

  • Supporting the work of local teachers in the classroom
  • Taking part in other initiatives that benefit the local community
  • Experiencing the local culture with teenagers your age

Your work will focus on the following main areas:

Supporting the work of local teachers in the classroom

You’ll be a source of extra support for local teachers, ensuring they can spend time giving students the attention that they need. Organising fun, creative activities is a great way to keep the children occupied while helping them learn through play. These include songs, games and arts and crafts sessions.

Taking part in other initiatives that benefit the local community

You’ll also take part in work outside of the classroom. As a group, you’ll get involved in ongoing community projects, from maintaining community buildings to helping with local sustainability initiatives. This is a great way to ensure you make an impact that lasts long after you leave the island.

Explore Samoa with teenagers your age

It’s not all work and no play on this trip! We organise regular social activities, so that you can learn about the local culture while having fun and seeing the sites. There is also an exciting weekend trip to Manono Island to look forward to. Our staff will be there to supervise you at all times.

Where in Samoa will I work?

Apia

While volunteering with children in Samoa you’ll be based in the town of Apia, the capital of Samoa. However, you might also travel to schools and community centres in nearby villages. These schools and community centres are often overcrowded or have very basic resources.

During your weekend trip and regular social activities, you’ll get to go sightseeing and enjoy Samoa’s famously beautiful coastlines. All your work, social events, and the weekend trip will be supervised by local staff at all times.

AIRPORT PICKUP, FLIGHTS AND VISAS

When you arrive at your respective airport, a member of Projects Abroad staff will be there to meet you. You can find more detailed information on arrival airports, orientation, and visas on our Samoa Arrival Procedures page.

What are the aims and impact of this project?

The main aim of this project is to bring like-minded teenagers together to provide extra classroom support and help children learn through play.

With a large number of students in the classroom, it is difficult for teachers to provide all the children with the attention that they need. As a volunteer, you’ll provide an extra pair of helping hands. This makes it easier for teachers to run the classes, and children receive an improved level of educational support.

Learning through play is a great way for children to develop their skills. You’ll spend time organising games, arts and crafts, and other fun activities to keep them entertained.

There is also room to get involved in other community development projects, from renovating community buildings to helping with local sustainability initiatives.

Join us on this Care & Community High School Special in Samoa and help to increase the level of support in classrooms.

Management Plans

We set out the aims and objectives of our projects in documents called Management Plans. We use them to properly plan the work you’ll do. They also help us measure and evaluate our achievements and impact each year.

Ultimately, our Management Plans help us make our projects better. This in turn means you get to be part of something that makes a real impact where it’s needed. Read more about our Management Plans.

Measuring Our Impact

Every year, thousands of High School Special volunteers and interns actively make a difference around the world. During their time abroad, they contribute towards achieving long-term goals and make a long-lasting positive impact on the communities where they work.

We produce an annual High School Specials Impact Report, which documents some of these achievements. Find out more about the impact of these projects, and read the latest report.

FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION

You'll stay with a host family in Apia. They will welcome you into their home, eager to share their customs and have you teach them about your own culture. We believe that this is the best way to immerse yourself in the culture of Samoa and have a truly unique experience.

We will always try to let you live alongside at least one other Projects Abroad volunteer or intern at the same host family. Your room will be modest, but comfortable, clean, and safe.

Your programme fee includes three meals a day.
