Volunteering in Cambodia
Support community development while exploring the ancient ruins and history of Cambodia
Volunteer in Cambodia with Projects Abroad and help work towards our ongoing development goals that benefit local communities. You’ll get to experience life in this beautiful country, while learning about its history and fascinating culture.
We have many volunteer opportunities in Cambodia that you can contribute to. You can support early childhood development and teach English in kindergartens, or work at disadvantaged schools. Or, travel to rural areas where healthcare services are limited, and help us provide free basic medical care.
All of our projects are based in the capital city of Phnom Penh, with our offices located in the city centre. Our full time local staff are on call 24/7 if you need support.
When you aren’t volunteering, you’ll spend your time exploring. You can eat your fill of Cambodian chicken curry or fresh fish amok, learn how to Apsara dance, or visit the many buddhist temples.

Map & Location
It’s a country on the rise, with tourism and agriculture driving its economy. Though marked by a complex past, Cambodia is developing as a tourist destination and offers an unforgettable experience.
Siem Reap
Siem Reap is Cambodia’s second largest city and the gateway to the magnificent Angkor Archaeological Park. This area was the heart of the ancient Khmer Empire and is home to Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument, attracting millions of tourists every year.
Steeped in history, it is one of the best places to see traditional Apsara dance and theatre performances. It is also the home of the APOPO Centre, training rats to detect landmines and unexploded ordnance to create a safer world.
Koh Rong
Koh Rong is Cambodia’s second-largest island, a tropical retreat famed for its white-sand beaches and turquoise waters in the Gulf of Thailand. It’s the perfect place for a seaside getaway, where you can disconnect from the world, soak up the sun, and simply listen to the lapping waves.
With a small permanent population of just over 1,000, the island’s culture is laid-back, mainly focused on fishing and nature. While there, try to catch a glimpse of the magnificent bioluminescent plankton visible at night.
Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, lies where the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers meet. This busy city blends French colonial architecture with ornate Buddhist temples and is home to 2.5 million people. It has a tropical wet and dry climate, meaning it can be hot all year.
Filled with artisan markets, excellent Khmer cuisine, and historic landmarks, Phnom Penh has something for everyone. It is also well connected, offering easy access to the countryside and the wonders of Angkor Wat.
