Arrival airport and pickup in Tokyo

You’ll arrive at either Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) or Narita International Airport (NRT). Both airports serve Tokyo, with Haneda being closer to central Tokyo and Narita located further east.

Airport Pickup:

A member of staff will meet you at the airport arrivals hall with a Projects Abroad sign. The exact meeting point will be confirmed prior to your arrival.

From the airport, you’ll be transferred directly to your hotel accommodation in Tokyo. The journey takes approximately 30-60 minutes from Haneda or 60-90 minutes from Narita, depending on traffic.

All transportation from the airport to your accommodation is covered by your programme fees.

Booking Your Flights to Japan

Searching for flights online is easier than ever, but it can still be a time-consuming, overwhelming, and frustrating process. If you need support, our staff have in-depth knowledge of travelling to Japan. We’ll let you know the best arrival times and recommend the most convenient flight options.

We can advise you on booking the best return flights, ensuring you have the safest, most convenient, and most cost-effective flight options, no matter how complex your travel plans are.

Visa Information:

One of the perks of volunteering with us is the visa guidance we give you. We have a dedicated visa team who have up-to-date information on visa requirements for all of our destinations around the world. You can get in touch with us if you have any visa queries, big or small, and we will talk you through the process.

Most visitors to Japan will not need to prearrange a visa for stays up to 90 days. Our visa team will provide specific guidance based on your nationality and will support you through any visa application process if required.

We handle visa guidance and support for all participants, making the process smooth and stress-free for you.

Your induction and orientation in Tokyo

On the morning after your arrival, you’ll have a comprehensive orientation session led by experienced local staff. This orientation is designed to help you feel confident and prepared for your Japanese adventure.

You will also get to hear more about the schedule ahead and shown around the local area, including the location of:

  • Banks & ATMs
  • Supermarkets
  • Emergency services

Your first days on the programme

Your experience begins immediately after orientation, with your first cultural activity or city exploration. Throughout the programme, you’ll be accompanied by experienced staff members who will guide you through all activities, workshops, and excursions.
