Travel to the land of nomads and Genghis Khan and support local community development

Volunteer in Mongolia with Projects Abroad and make a difference while exploring a different country. Through our projects, you’ll become part of ongoing efforts to support local communities.

Our Mongolia volunteer programmes have something to suit everyone. If you enjoy working with children, help support early childhood development at a childcare centre. Or, teach English at disadvantaged, rural schools. You can also learn directly from doctors at a hospital, or get practical journalism work experience at a television broadcaster.

No matter what project you choose, our friendly Projects Abroad staff will be available for you 24/7, and they can assist you with any issues or concerns.

Most of our projects are based in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s capital. It’s the political and commercial hub of Mongolia, and still very traditional. So don’t be surprised if you see monks and locals in traditional dress wandering past business professionals in suits on the streets!

Mongolia, known as “The Land of the Eternal Blue Sky”, is a true one-off. Discover a country rich in history and culture, where one-third of people live as nomads, moving their traditional ger homes with the seasons. Witness an ancient way of life and enjoy stunning landscapes.

With 250 sunny days a year, it’s perfect for outdoor adventures. Attend the Naadam festival, a showcase of wrestling, horse racing, and archery. And don’t miss the world’s largest equestrian statue, a tribute to Genghis Khan.

Ulaanbaatar

Home to half of Mongolia’s population, the capital city of Ulaanbaatar is a fascinating blend of old and new. Located in north-central Mongolia, it is at a crossroad between it’s better known neighbours, China and Russia.

You will see skyscrapers and traditional tents side-by-side, workers in suits and monks in conversation, and surviving monasteries from pre-soviet occupation.

It is the world’s coldest capital city, but often reaches warm temperatures in the summer!

Ms Zolzaya Noov

Operations Manager

Zolzaya or Zolo as she likes to be called started working for Projects Abroad Mongolia in February 2011. As a Project Supervisor, her roles are to welcome the new volunteers, introduce them to their hosts and placement, and offer advice and support to the volunteers. In Zolo’s free time, she likes to spend time with her friends and her favourite sports are volleyball and table tennis. Zolo has many interests, including travelling, hiking and swimming.

Ms Arinzul Ganbaatar

Project Supervisor

Arinzul or Zulaa, as she likes to be known, has been working at Projects Abroad since March 2011. Zulaa visits volunteers at work and at their host families. Zulaa enjoys reading, organising volunteer work, teaching and spending time with her son.

Mr Otgonbayar Togtuun

Director of Finance

Oko is both the Director of our projects in Mongolia and the Director of Finance. Oko has spent time working in Korea and the UK. He now enjoys living back in Ulaanbaatar with his wife and three children. Having studied for his MBA in Korea, he returned home to Mongolia with his Korean wife, Sang Em. He enjoys singing and is famed for his karaoke skills. He was 5 times gold medallist in athletics when he was a high school student.
