Our Teen Wildlife Conservation Project is your ticket to an experience like no other.
It’s your chance to hit âpauseâ on the digital world and dive headfirst into an incredible journey of self discovery and hands-on conservation.
Put your phone down and get your hands dirty.
Yes, you’ll be less reliant on your device, but you’ll become more connected than everâto nature, to yourself, and to a global community of like-minded adventurers.
What’s the adventure?
We’re not talking about your average winter camp.
This is about getting stuck in, working alongside experienced conservationists to protect Botswana’s magnificent wildlife.
You will
- track and monitor animals, learning about their behaviour and habitats
- help remove invasive plant species that threaten the local ecosystem
- contribute to vital research projects that support long-term conservation efforts
Why Botswana?
Okay, letâs start with the obvious. Where is it?
Well, Botswana is in southern Africa, just above South Africa. Itâs a landlocked country about the same size as France thatâs home to just 2.4 million people.
Itâs one of the most sparsely populated places on the planet and the worldâs biggest producer of diamonds. The small population makes it a welcoming place, and a haven for wildlife. It also means low levels of light pollution, so it is perfect for stargazing.
Itâs a land of breathtaking beauty and incredible biodiversity. It’s a place where you can witness the raw power of nature and understand the vital need to protect it.
And don’t worry, you won’t be completely off the grid. We balance the âdigital detoxâ with opportunities to stay connected and share your experience with friends and family back home.
Youâll have limited connectivity on the reserve, while the camp is unconnected.
The benefits of a digital detox
There are proven benefits to taking time away from technology, and many healthcare providers agree that digital detoxes are good for your mental and physical health. These include reduced stress and anxiety, better sleep, reduced eye strain, and a lot more.
When youâre in the moment around the campfire in Botswana, you can focus on making new friends and sharing an experience in real-time. The worries of the world or the concerns of life can be left at home. It is somewhere you can totally detach and just be yourself.
There will be plenty to talk about as you meet a mix of people from different countries and cultures. Youâll feel your mind start to clear and your resilience and adaptability improve as you become immersed in the moment and in nature. Itâs no coincidence that improved social relationships and mental clarity are both common benefits of a digital detox!
Almost immediately, youâll probably find your sleep improves and you feel more confident as you take in the fresh air and your new surroundings. Youâll also likely develop a more immediate and mindful approach to conversations and socialising.
