What you need to know

Overview

Perfect for ambitious high school students looking to get ahead in their medical career, our Medical Internship in London will give you exposure to healthcare in a modern setting. This experience will be an excellent addition to your CV and can also help you discover whether medicine is the right career path for you.

You’ll learn core medical skills, experience simulated but realistic healthcare environments, and gain insight into one of the world’s leading modern healthcare systems.

Through a mix of simulated work experience, shadowing doctors in a hospital environment, and hands-on medical workshops, you’ll gain valuable knowledge to build on your understanding of medicine.

The best bit? You don’t need any previous experience to join, and you’ll be able to discuss your time in the UK in university or medical school interviews in future. This project is designed to help you stand out in competitive applications and find out more about your favourite subject.

Alongside your medical work experience, get extraordinary insight into the history and development of medicine in London’s world-class museums. Home to many medical innovations and some of the most significant medical collections on the planet, you’ll have time to explore The Old Operating Theatre, the Science Museum, and the Natural History Museum.

There’s more to London than medicine. Visit stunning parks, busy markets, and the famous historic sights of the city. Plus, you’ll get a day trip to the lively seaside city of Brighton. Pick up a souvenir or two as you explore the Victorian-era streets lined with independent shops and unwind from a busy week by the sea (but watch out for the infamous seagulls).

Our teen medical internships run on fixed dates during school holidays. This means you’ll travel with a group of people your age, with similar ambitions and interests, from all over the world. With them, you’ll make memories to last a lifetime.

Activities

As a medical intern in London, you’ll work with experienced medical professionals in simulated hospital environments. You’ll gain clinical experience in several different departments and fields.

Here are a few of the tasks you can expect to do during your placement:

During your medical internship in London, you will enjoy an immersive experience in simulated healthcare environments and shadow professionals in real medical settings. This will give you the chance to build the skills and experience you need to prepare for medical school and stand out in the application process.

You’ll also get to explore the city and experience modern British culture alongside other teens from around the world, making memories and forging friendships that will stay with you forever.

Aims & Impact

The main aim of this project is to provide you with a competitive edge when applying for medical school, developing your understanding of medicine to help you stand out from the crowd. You’ll gain real medical experience to draw upon in your personal statement and interviews, and the confidence to discuss that experience clearly.

A full day of this project is dedicated to ensuring you achieve this aim, working with junior doctors and medical students to discuss what to say and how to say it in your medical school applications.

A secondary aim is to teach you essential life saving techniques through a recognised BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, which will demonstrate your dedication to the medical field.

Plus, we want this project to inspire and develop the next generation of medical professionals. By providing plenty of opportunities for clinical exposure and detailed workshops, we hope to show just how rewarding and important a career in the medical field can be.

All of your work will be done safely and under supervision. We never compromise on medical ethics, ensuring you receive the best exposure to clinical reality while also maintaining the highest professional standards.

Free Time & Leisure

This is a travel programme as much as it is a medical one, and you’ll have plenty of time to explore the city, see the sights, and immerse in modern British culture.

Outside of working hours, you’ll visit famous museums, markets, and historical sites of the capital city. These include Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Borough Market, the Natural History Museum, the Science Musuem, and the Old Operating Theatre.

On the weekend, take the train to the stunning seaside city of Brighton, exploring the Victorian era seafront and pier, colourful market streets, and independent shops.

Travelling is a learning opportunity all of its own, and we make sure that you have time to develop personally and professionally in equal measure. Enjoy dinners and free time as a group as you become friends with other teens from around the world who share your passion for medicine.

Map & Location

Once the centre of a global empire, the United Kingdom’s international influence remains through the English language, art, sport, cinema, education, finance, technology, culture, music, medicine, and more.

Across the four constituent countries (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland), you’ll find world-leading museums, institutions, national parks, and landmarks. From Stonehenge to Snowdonia, passing more than a few famous football clubs on the way, you’ll find something to make any visit memorable.

London

First founded as “Londinium” 2,000 years ago, London is the capital city of the UK and one of the world’s most influential places. Sat along the banks of the River Thames in the south of England, more than nine million people call it home.

London is a fascinating melting pot of cultures, with a strong history of multiculturalism and innovation. As western Europe’s biggest city, and one of the most visited cities on earth, there’s so much to discover, made easy by the world’s oldest underground rail system.

Brighton

The seaside city of Brighton sits on the south coast of England, 50 miles south of London. Famous for its progressive culture, busy beaches, and food-stealing seagulls, Brighton is one of the trendiest and most exciting cities in the UK.

Around 300,000 people live here, but it is growing fast. Explore the Victorian-era seafront and pier, marvel at the Royal Pavilion, and wander The Lanes: vibrant and independent shopping streets stretching from the station to the seafront.

Food & Accommodation

You’ll stay in a stylish student accommodation block located in North London, with all the amenities you expect for an enjoyable adventure, including three meals a day and Wi-Fi.

London has one of the best and most diverse culinary scenes in the world, and you’ll get to try a range of incredible meals during your stay.
