Trip Overview

What you need to know

Overview

Are you passionate about business and eager to both teach and learn from local entrepreneurs? Join us in Cambodia to support small business owners and gain hands-on experience in business development.

Unlike standard high school business internships, this immersive trip allows you to make a meaningful contribution from the start. The best bit? You don’t need any previous experience to join.

You will receive full training and support from dedicated local staff, empowering you to lead educational workshops for both school children and local business owners. During your sessions, you’ll teach essential business planning skills, alongside marketing, savings, and money management.

One of the most impactful and unique elements of this internship is the opportunity to review business applications and help distribute loans. You’ll analyse and identify the viable business plans worthy of receiving these loans.

The hands-on nature of this internship in Cambodia helps teach so much that can’t be learned in the classroom, giving you the edge in your university applications.

You’ll develop your leadership, communication, and business planning skills in a real-world setting. Plus, you’ll get to explore the incredible culture and history of Cambodia alongside other teens from around the world.

Activities

In Cambodia, many small business owners and entrepreneurs lack the formal training and financial support they need to thrive. Without access to capital or business education, it can be difficult for them to grow their businesses and support their families. This is why your contribution is so valuable.

You can expect to be involved in a range of activities, including:

Aims & Impact

Generally, we are working towards three long-term and sustainable goals through this project. These are:

  1. Providing vital business training and skills development to local entrepreneurs
  2. Supporting the growth of small businesses through targeted micro-loans
  3. Educating the younger generation on the basics of business planning and financial literacy

By running workshops and distributing loans, you’ll support local people with the tools they need to succeed and keep their businesses open.

You’ll work alongside our staff and local professionals to share essential skills like marketing, savings, and business planning. You’ll have our staff on hand to support you 24/7, so you always feel comfortable and ready to tackle any situation.

This not only empowers the individuals you work with, but also strengthens the local economy.

We are dedicated to creating lasting, positive change in the communities we work in. All of our activities are carefully designed to support that long-term development.

Safety and staff support

Your safety and security is our prime concern. We have many procedures and systems in place to ensure you have all the support you need as a young person travelling abroad.

Our Projects Abroad staff are available 24/7 to provide support and guidance. They will also make sure you feel comfortable and safe at your placement and accommodation.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited, and risk assessed to conform to the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.

Map & Location

Uncover the magic of Cambodia, a Southeast Asian gem with ancient wonders and modern marvels. Here, the legendary Angkor Wat stands as a testament to the Khmer Empire’s power, but it’s more than just temples. Beautiful beaches, stunning skyscrapers, and roaring rivers can be found everywhere you look.

It’s a country on the rise, with tourism and agriculture driving its economy. Though marked by a complex past, Cambodia is developing as a tourist destination and offers an unforgettable experience.

Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, lies where the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers meet. This busy city blends French colonial architecture with ornate Buddhist temples and is home to 2.5 million people. It has a tropical wet and dry climate, meaning it can be hot all year.

Filled with artisan markets, excellent Khmer cuisine, and historic landmarks, Phnom Penh has something for everyone. It is also well connected, offering easy access to the countryside and the wonders of Angkor Wat.

Food & Accommodation

Experience Cambodia worry-free. You’ll have all the essentials — a cosy bed, three meals a day, fresh drinking water, and daily transport to and from your placement, handled by our staff. You’ll eat at a variety of restaurants or markets throughout your stay.

You’ll stay in a modern and comfortable hotel with other participants on your project in Phnom Penh. By sharing rooms, meals, and activities, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students and socialise after a day of project work. Your central location means you’ll easily experience everything the country has to offer.

On our High School Programmes, we will try to place you in a room with at least one volunteer or intern of the same gender and approximate age. Your room will be comfortable, clean, and safe.
